Itinerary
Day 1 - Tuesday
Monmouth
Leaving London behind, our journey heads towards Wales through the countryside of the Cotswolds where we take the opportunity to stop and explore the picturesque villages in the area. Continuing west into Wales, known as Red Dragon country. We visit the impressive Cistercian abbey of Tintern, where we revive the legacy of King Arthur and Knights of the Round Table.
Dinner/Overnight - Monmouth
Day 2 - Wednesday
Cardiff & Brecon Beacons
Following a guided tour of the country's capital, Cardiff, we visit St Fagans, one of Europe's leading open-air museums. We then begin our journey along the Rhondda Valley to experience the country's mining heritage; climbing the Rhigos Mountain, Wales' last deep coal mine set against the breathtaking Brecon Beacons. Our drive continues through the breathtaking central region of Wales to our traditional overnight accommodation.
Dinner/ Overnight - Brecon Beacons
Day 3 - Thursday
Llandudno
Having explored the narrow streets of Brecon, we continue along the Abergwesyn Pass - recently voted Britain's most scenic drive. On to Portmeirion, this stunning private coastal village was created using a combination of rescued architectural follies and specially designed buildings from around the world. Heading northwards, we then follow the scenic coastal route to our base for the next two days in the handsome seaside town of Llandudno.
Overnight - Llandudno
Day 4 - Friday
Llandudno
From Llandudno we travel the coastline admiring the fortified castle towns including Conwy and Caernarfon and cross to the pristine island of Anglesey. This is a whole new world of sightseeing, from prehistoric burial chambers to Celtic and Viking settlements. We also make a brief visit to the famous town of Llanfair P.G.
Overnight - Llandudno
Day 5 - Saturday
Ludlow
Today we visit the magnificent Bodnant Gardens overlooking the valley towards the Snowdonia range. We stop at Betws-y-Coed to stroll through this lovely village before continuing onto Llangollen where you may embark on a horse-drawn or motorised boat trip along the Llangollen Canal. Marvel at the architecture before heading across the border to our overnight stop in the 900 year English settlement of Ludlow.
Dinner/Overnight - Ludlow
Day 6 - Sunday
Stratford
Every corner of this lovely town breathes history and time is made here to independently explore its fine medieval buildings and famous local produce shops. Unearth Shakespeare's country as we visit Stratford-upon-Avon, filled with historic buildings and literary associations during our guided walking tour. “Parting is such sweet sorrow” and alas having bid a sad farewell to Wales and the bard, we must continue on our journey and return to London where our tour ends.
